The Last Week

This is the last week of "By Hand, By Water, By Mind" at the Maude Kerns Art Center in Eugene, Oregon. http://www.mkartcenter.org/

My video work from the "View from the Canoe" project has been selected to be shown in the King County E4C gallery in Seattle, Washington. The E4C gallery is a series of monitors that can be viewed from the sidewalk at the King County 4Culture gallery/offices. No date on that, yet.

Signal Fire Residency - Outpost 2010

I've just returned from my week long residency with Signal Fire. This year they set up in the upper Clackamas River in the Mt. Hood National Forest. There were four artists, each provided with a large 10x10 foot tent, spaced about 200 yards apart with the hosts, Amy and Ryan, maintaining a base camp, where we all met for dinner and socializing each evening...until nearly midnight most days. My planned project for the week was a hand-surveyed and hand-drawn map, and that is just what I did. It was a special treat to work in an area that I was unfamiliar with - I hadn't even seen a map of the area. This really let me continue working on a concept built around the value of knowing where you are, as opposed to knowing what your location is. I navigated by compass or, as time went on, by recognizing places and landmarks.
